The future of automotive is data. To support and realise new data services arising from autonomous vehicles, connected car and ride sharing, enormous amounts of data must be collected, curated, aggregated, analysed, monitored and controlled. Furthermore, there is the growing expectation of drivers to have on-demand services that flow seamlessly between countries and providers, and respect a person’s right to privacy and security. From industry’s side, there is a growing demand to be able to provision such services quickly, reliably and efficiently across multiple countries, infrastructures and legal environments. This leads to a number of key architectural demands that will be addressed within SODALITE:

  • Increasing the capabilities of in-vehicle data processing and intelligence at the network edge;
  • Edapting computational capacity to process large amounts of data in a timely and on-demand manner, in a changeable infrastructure environment; and
  • Ensuring end-to-end logging of all data processing that is in line with the same data usage control restrictions and privacy considerations as the rest of the data processing chain.
  • Extension of existing application-level adaptation capability for infrastructure-level re-configuration driven by SODALITE.
  • Instantiation and re-deployment of UC components at Cloud and Edge level in response to changes in capabilities, QoS parameters, regulatory compliance (incl. End-user consent changes).
  • Leveraging high-performance compute resources for e.g. backend model training for subsequent deployment to the Edge.
  • Application (service-level) requirement definition, demonstrable compliant execution across heterogeneous hardware resources. SODALITE’s vehicle IoT use case, supports the development of tools that enable the deployment and orchestration of real-time dynamic service adaptations and non-repudiable audit logging in a simple and fast way. Together with the KnowGo Car platform, this means that players in the automotive industry can competitively roll out data services that are both data ethical and legally compliant across regulatory and country borders.
